Early Development of Landscape Architectural Education at the South China University of Technology

Abstract: The basic concept of professional early education is far-reaching. Through a literature review, this paper examines the development process and the basic contents of early curriculum and research at the Department of Landscape Architecture at the South China University of Technology. The results show that the urban design course set up in the early 1930s was designed to impart knowledge on urban park systems, and the garden design course developed in 1949 was the first independent specialty course in the discipline. The study of Lingnan Garden from the 1950s to 1960s laid the foundation for landscape architectural education and research, the influence of which has been far-reaching.

摘要: 学科或专业早期教育蕴含着的基本理念的影响往往是深远的。通过文献整理,梳理了华南理工大学风景园林学科早年课程设置和研究的发展过程、基本内容和特色等。结果表明,1930年代初期设立的都市设计课程讲授了城市公园系统的知识,1949年开设的庭园设计课程属于该学科第一门独立设置的专业课程,1950年代至1960年代开展的岭南庭园的研究奠定了该学科的风景园林教育和研究的基础,影响深远。
