Abstract: The goal of New-type Urbanization in our country and urban design coincide with each other. People-oriented idea espoused in urban design can also be used as an important method to motivate New-type Urbanization. Urban design investigation and evaluation from public views should be introduced to acquire the bottom-up preferences. Although big data can provide unprecedented evaluation, traditional sample survey cannot be replaced so far. On the other hand, as urban design today in china is facing the transformation from simple urban expansion to the promotion of urban quality, small scale projects gradually occupy the main design consultations and public participation will be the key in implementation. Now, without legal status and optimistic social environment, urban design as a tool to fulfill the people-oriented target still has a long way to go, but without any doubt.
