Abstract: With the rapid social and economical change in China, the relationships among people, nature and culture have gained much attention. The conservation of cultural and natural heritage in China also has achieved great progress in the recent 30 years. In the year of 2008, based on the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University established the National Heritage Center with the support of the National Development and Reform Commission, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Ministry of Education. This center aims at the conservation of cultural and natural heritage, and integrates associated resources so as to construct a platform for conservation education, research and practice. This paper introduces its academic background, research characteristics, organization structure and a series of achievements in research and practical programs.
