Abstract: With current dramatic changes in business models and social habits, urban public space, as a key node of urban space, is losing its public role and is undergoing an unstoppable decline of its public life. As one of the vital design methods of urban acupuncture, the concept of green acupuncture advocates that the plant elements are utilized to shape urban green public space, and enhance the publicness and regenerate the vitality of urban public space. Green acupuncture is designed to trigger a series of peripheral or follow-up reactions related to the holistic improvement of the city via appropriate interventions. Through a case study of different green acupuncture projects, several strategies incorporating the concept of green acupuncture were generated, which not only conform with the general principles of urban acupuncture but also allow for the special factor of the continuous growth of green plants. Finally, the problems and opportunities of urban public space in China are discussed and effective strategies for the improvement of urban public space in China explored.
